Job summary

The Urology Centre is a modern out-patient and diagnostic department specialising in urology and uro-oncology. The department offers Lithotripsy treatment for the treatment of urinary stones. We offer rapid access to many diagnostic procedures, many of which are nurse-led. We are a fast-growing speciality and we focus on excellent patient experience, service delivery and customer care.

Main duties of the job

The Advanced Practice (nurse) role is for a qualified autonomous practitioner with a caseload within a team structure. The post holder will be given an opportunity to utilise existing clinical skills in Urology and to develop new specialist skills. The development of new skills will be acquired with the support and supervision of experienced specialists working in the area. We are hoping to recruit a qualified practitioner (Nurse) who can communicate well and can adapt to an ever changing environment. Urology nursing experience is essential. The role will mainly be based at Epsom Hospital, but there will be some requirement to work at St Helier Hospital.

Qualifications

Essential

  • oMSc in Advanced Practice or equivalent
  • oIndependent or supplementary prescriber
  • oBAUN accredited or EAUN accredited
  • oRegistered Nurse

Desirable

  • oUndertaken accredited course or gained digital badge accreditation with NHSE Centre for advancing practice
  • oCompleted advanced practice accreditation in speciality e.g. RCEM, RCN, full membership MACP
  • oCompleted portfolio of supervised practice in speciality
  • oSpecialty courses, particularly on cystoscopy, prostate biopsy (transperineal), haematuria assessment, urodynamics and other procedures

Experience

Essential

  • oExtensive experience within an Urology clinical speciality
  • oDemonstration of experience in all four pillars of advanced clinical practice (clinical practice, leadership and management, research, education)
  • oParticipation in audit and research
  • oIn depth experience of current Urological issues including development of nurse led services and clinics

Desirable

  • oExperience as clinical Leader
  • oExperience in an autonomous practice role
  • oPrevious experience in an advanced practice role
  • oExperience of service development

Skills

Essential

  • oAdvanced assessment and history taking skills, demonstrates highly developed diagnostic reasoning skills

Knowledge

  • oIn depth experience of current Urological issues including development of nurse led services and clinics
