Agricultural Engineer Wells-next-the-sea Salary dependent on experience Permanent, full-time Potential accommodation available if required We are looking for an Agricultural Engineer to join an established agricultural and food production business in North Norfolk. This is a broad, hands-on engineering role covering the maintenance, development and improvement of equipment and infrastructure across a busy rural site. The operation includes farming, livestock, food production, renewable energy generation and a range of mechanical, electrical and control systems. The role would particularly suit someone with a farming or agricultural background who enjoys practical engineering, fault finding and improving the way equipment operates rather than simply carrying out repetitive maintenance. The successful Agricultural Engineer will work across a wide variety of systems and machinery, so this is likely to appeal to someone who enjoys variety and is comfortable taking ownership of engineering problems from initial fault finding through to repair, modification or redesign. The role Responsibilities will include: * Carrying out mechanical and electrical maintenance across agricultural, production and site equipment. * Fault finding on pumps, motors, controls, heating systems, cooling systems and associated machinery. * Supporting and maintaining renewable energy and process equipment. * Identifying recurring faults and developing practical engineering improvements to increase reliability and reduce maintenance requirements. * Supporting PLC, HMI and process-control systems, including basic programming and fault finding where required. * Maintaining and improving water supply, hot water, irrigation and other site utility systems. * Assisting with the design, modification and occasional fabrication of equipment for specialist applications. * Supporting the physical infrastructure associated with IT, CCTV and communications systems where required. * Monitoring equipment performance and contributing to improvements in efficiency, energy use and site operation. * Working closely with the wider farm and production teams to ensure equipment remains reliable and operational. About you We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience within farming, agriculture or another practical engineering environment. You may currently be working as an Agricultural Engineer, Farm Engineer, Agricultural Maintenance Engineer, Farm Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer, Service Engineer or Engineering Technician. Ideally, you will have: * Practical experience maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment. * A good mechanical engineering background with strong fault-finding ability. * Some electrical knowledge and the confidence to work with motors, controls and associated equipment. * Experience within farming, agriculture, livestock, food production or another hands-on engineering environment. * A practical approach and willingness to work across both workshop and operational areas. * The ability to work independently and take responsibility for engineering problems. * An interest in improving, modifying or redesigning equipment where a better long-term solution can be found. * Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with colleagues across different areas of the business. Experience with PLCs, process controls, instrumentation, pumps, renewable energy equipment or food production machinery would be useful, but we would not expect someone to have experience in every area. A farming or agricultural background would be a significant advantage. Someone who understands the realities of working in a rural environment, is comfortable around livestock and machinery and is used to dealing with practical problems as they arise is likely to adapt well to the position. Applications would also be considered from developing engineers who have a strong practical background and the aptitude to learn the controls and process side of the role. The business The employer is an established North Norfolk agricultural and food production business with several interconnected areas of operation. Engineering plays an important part in the day-to-day running and continued development of the site. Rather than simply replacing failed components, the business takes a practical approach to engineering and looks for ways to improve equipment, reduce unnecessary maintenance, minimise waste and make better use of energy and resources. As a result, the Agricultural Engineer will have the opportunity to become involved in a much wider range of engineering work than would normally be found in a conventional agricultural maintenance position. The role offers exposure to mechanical engineering, electrical systems, automation, renewable energy, process equipment and engineering development projects. Location The position is based at a rural site in North Norfolk. Due to the location and nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential and candidates will need to be able to commute reliably to the site. Applicants already based in North Norfolk or within a reasonable travelling distance would be particularly well suited. Potential accommodation may be available for someone considering relocation. Salary will depend on relevant engineering experience, with scope to develop as knowledge and responsibility increase
