Job summary

An opportunity to apply for the post of Assistant Directorate Accountant has arisen within our Financial Management Team.

The Assistant Directorate Accountant will work as part of the Financial Management team to ensure the accurate and timely provision of financial information, support and guidance to the Trust's Clinical Boards.

The Financial Management team are responsible for the monthly closedown, variance analysis, reporting and forecasting, as well as providing business support to managers, including high quality financial information and analysis to meet their financial objectives throughout the year.

Main duties of the job

This is a key role with responsibility for providing financial support, advice, & guidance and ensuring that financial controls are maintained within Corporate Governance guidelines.

The team produce monthly management accounts to enable accurate monitoring and forecasting of the Trust's financial position, enabling budget holders and the Trust to make well informed financial decisions.

Job responsibilities

  • To assist the (Senior) Directorate Accountant in the provision of a high-quality financial management service.
  • To work closely with the Directorate Management Team, providing timely and accurate financial and supporting information and advice to facilitate the effective monitoring of specific Directorate and Departments specific financial position.
  • Production of budgets for specific areas of reporting responsibility.
  • To ensure that financial controls are maintained within Corporate Governance guidelines.

Person specification

Qualifications & Education

Essential

  • oA good level of education in a numerate subject
  • oNVQ level 5 or Association of Accounting Technician membership or certificate level of a professional accountancy (CCAB) qualification or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • oFurther progress towards CCAB qualification

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • oExperience in the finance department of a complex organisation
  • oA good working knowledge of financial computer systems
  • oKnowledge of Management Accounting procedures and techniques including variance analysis and forecasting

Desirable

  • oPrevious NHS finance experience
  • oWorking knowledge of Oracle
  • oStaff supervision experience

Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • oAble to work autonomously to manage own workload and change priorities as necessary to achieve key tasks, although with advice available if required
  • oAble to communicate complex information to a range of different audiences using a range of different communication methods
  • oAdvanced PC skills are required, especially in the use of financial computer systems and Microsoft Office
