Assistant Manager Tutorbase
We are seeking a confident, experienced Assistant Manager to take ownership of staff performance and day-to-day leadership at our Mile End tuition centre. You'll be based primarily at Mile End, with occasional cover at our other centres when needed, holding real managerial authority over admin staff and tutors, with a clear path to becoming a Centre Manager.
This is a senior role. You'll be trusted to manage people directly setting expectations, giving feedback, and holding staff accountable while also working alongside the Centre Manager to grow new enrolments, keep existing families happy, and drive the centre's overall performance.
Reporting to: Centre Manager
Pay & Training
Starting salary: £30,000, reflecting the seniority and staff management responsibility of this role
Potential to earn up to an additional £5,000 through performance-related bonus (structure to be discussed at interview)
Salary reviewed at the 18-month progression point
Full sales, systems, and management training provided
Languages
Fluency in English is required
Fluent Bengali is essential, given the high number of Bengali-speaking families in our client base
Key Responsibilities
Manage and hold staff accountable set clear expectations for admin staff and tutors, hold regular check-ins, give direct feedback, delegate work appropriately, and address underperformance before it becomes a bigger issue
Share responsibility for centre performance, acting as the senior on-site authority when the Centre Manager isn't present, with the standing to make decisions and resolve issues on the spot
Lead sales and enrolment lead engaging trial conversations, handle walk-ins and enquiries, and follow up on leads and trials promptly through to sign-up
Represent us at stalls and community events attend local stalls and events as needed, including occasionally at our other centres, actively engaging with prospective families and driving sign-ups on the spot
Keep existing families happy and retained proactively check in with current families, catch concerns early, and handle parent queries, complaints, and escalated issues directly and confidently
Manage day-to-day centre operations, including payments and invoicing, tutor scheduling and coordination, and accuracy of student and tutor records
Take the lead on screening tutor applications and conducting interviews
Help enforce SOPs and standards (safeguarding, opening/closing, cleaning, security), and take on other delegated responsibilities from the Centre Manager and directors that reflect your seniority
Provide occasional cover at our other centres when requested
Progression: a genuine path to Centre Manager at 18 months for those who demonstrate the standard strong staff management, sales and retention contribution, and consistent leadership not just time served

Outgoing and persuasive in sales settings genuinely comfortable leading trial conversations and representing us at stalls and community events
Just as focused on keeping families happy long-term as on winning new ones
Takes initiative xwzovoh spots problems and acts on them without needing to be prompted
Trustworthy and decisive, able to take ownership of the centre in the Centre Manager's absence
Excellent spoken and written English
Fluent Bengali, essential for communicating with the significant proportion of our families who are Bengali-speaking
Able and willing to travel to other centres or event locations when requested
Excellent time management and organisational skills

28 days annual leave
Based at Mile End, with occasional travel to our other centres or event locations as needed
Qualifications
Prior experience managing or supervising staff is a strong plus
Sales experience or exposure is a strong plus
