Job summary

The post holder will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person centred evidence based nursing that respects and maintains dignity and human rights. They will be responsible for assessment of care needs of patients and planning programmes of care, implementation and the evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision. At times they will have management responsibility for being in charge of the ward/department and supervising junior members of staff.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will practice in a holistic, non-judgmental, caring and compassionate manner that avoids assumptions, supports social inclusion and recognises and respects individual choice and acknowledges diversity. They will work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, students and trainees and agencies, service users, their carers and families. The post holder will contribute to the practice development within their clinical care setting and work in accordance with Trust Policies, Procedures and Guidelines and will be responsible for completing any work based training associated with the role.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. ( Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health)
  • *Evidence post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience

Experience

Essential

  • *Previous / recent experience or working in an acute NHS healthcare setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months)
  • *Willingness to become a practice supervisor / assessor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
  • * Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses can apply this to undergraduate training or post graduate practice
  • *Being an accountable professional
  • *Promoting health and preventing ill health
  • *Assessing needs and planning care
  • *Providing and evaluating care
  • *Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams -- including prioritisation and delegation skills
  • *Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health
  • *Improving safety and quality of care
  • *Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy
  • *Understanding / experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity
  • *Awareness of Health and Safety issues.
