Job summary

To lead and manage the nursing caseload for patients withDiabetes, who have multiple and complex needs includingcomplex Type 1 and 2 Diabetes, ante-natal, renal, transitionand initiation of CGM/pump therapy within the inpatient andoutpatient Diabetes service.

To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice andimplement and add to the body of knowledge that supportsnursing practice within Diabetes.

To lead and innovate diabetes related nursing practice, bothwithin the Trust and through local networks.

To develop diabetes guidelines, protocols and policies for theTrust

To develop all staff within the multidisciplinary team, providingsupport, advice, formal and informal education.

To actively contribute to and participate in the delivery of Trust-wide multi disciplinary mandatory training and teaching.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has come up (Barnet Hospital base site). This is a 7 day working role, hours to be discussed with the successful candidate.

Person specification

Education and professional qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse
  • Relevant 1st degree to specialist Diabetes care

Desirable

  • Educated to or willing to work to Masters level nurse education
  • Recognised teaching or mentorship qualification
  • Non-medical prescriber

Experience

Essential

  • Recent extensive experience in specialist diabetes care at CNS level.
  • Able to demonstrate contribution to clinical protocols.
  • Experience of supervising other healthcare professionals
  • Experience in teaching multidisciplinary staff.

Skills and aptitudes

Essential

  • Understanding of the role, competencies of the post, being aware of own boundaries and other members of health care team.
  • Effectively handles competing priorities, deadlines and ability to work under pressure and is able to support others.
  • Understanding of audit and research process.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in strategic and national issues pertinent to nursing and diabetes care.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
