Job summary

To lead the Patient Safety and Risk strategy within the Women Services directorate.

This involves fostering a culture amongst teams that ensures clinical quality and risk management remains one of the top priorities within the division through:

  • Enable all staff in women's to actively participate in identifying, actioning and evaluating all patient safety and risk issues
  • Leading and supporting the communication and management of the issues through Datix in line with policy.
  • Support investigation leads in the investigation of safety events within Gynaecology.
  • Analyse trends to ensure actions are put in place to reduce the risk of recurrence.
  • Writing timely reports which clearly identify the issues, lessons learned and changes to practice.
  • Triangulate all patient safety data to ensure divisional focus is appropriate to risk and protects patient safety

Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively with the Women's governance team, senior nurses,therapists and medical staff to deliver and co-ordinate the quality, governance and safety strategy within the speciality.

Oversee the Gynae risk register.

Ensure the appropriate level of investigation is taken in response to the Patient

Safety Incident Response Framework.

Report to and participate in relevant unit, Trust and network level governance and risk meetings.

To work alongside the clinical team to develop new and review existing policies and guidelines.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree or equivalent experience
  • Registered Nurse/Midwife/AHP with substantial Gynaecology or Women's Health experience.
  • Qualifications in audit and effectiveness or relevant experience

Desirable

  • Masters qualification or equivalent or working towards qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience working in relevant field - Women's health
  • Experience working in an environment with conflicting pressures and changing workload
  • Experience of working within a team and of developing good working relationships with internal and external staff at all levels
  • Experience working within the NHS
  • Experience of collating data and extrapolating information
  • Experience of working with complaints
  • Demonstrates analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Excellent telephone manner with the ability to deal tactfully, sympathetically and efficiently with all enquiries
