Band 8C Nurse Consultant - Colorectal Cancer
Job summary
We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Nurse Consultant to lead and transform care for colorectal cancer patients across North Central London.
This is a rare opportunity for an experienced Colorectal advanced practitioner to combine expert clinical practice, strategic leadership, education, and service development to influence colorectal cancer care across the whole Royal Free Group system--supporting straight to test services, colorectal cancer nurse specialists and stoma care and delivering truly integrated care.
This is a 24 month fixed term post initially, with the aim of making it permanent once the impact of the post is shown.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant Nurse will lead and role model advanced and specialist nursing to develop clinical pathways across colorectal cancer services.
The role will involve 50% direct clinical care (DCC) along with education, research and management activities.
It will be to provide system leadership allowing advanced and specialist nurses to realise their full potential as autonomous practitioners, to ensure seamless delivery of patient care and ensure high quality clinical outcomes.
The post holder will oversee teams of nurse specialists in straight test services, colorectal cancer nurse specialists and stoma care.
The will directly manage x2 8a Lead nurses and x8 Band 7 clinical nurse specialists.
About us
Colorectal cancer services across the Royal Free Group (Barney & Chase Farm Hospitals, Royal Free Hospital and North Middlesex Hospital) merged in April 2026.
This post is central to the colorectal leadership team (along with the Clinical Director, Head of Nursing and senior operational manager) in driving the new structures to improve outcomes for patients.
The Trust is committed to the development of nurse consultant roles and the successful applicant will have with support from other nurse consultants within the Directorate and more widely across the Trust.

Education and Professional qualifications
Essential
- Registered nurse
- Teaching accreditation: ENB 998 / Slice or equivalent
- Masters Degree in Nursing relevant to colorectal care or advanced practice
- Significant demonstrable experience of practice in colorectal care at Band 8a or above.
- Accredited management training course

- PhD or willing ness to work towards

- Ability to demonstrate significant experience in colorectal nursing including responsibility for aspects of case management, managing a clinical area, leading elements of service provision and of supporting staff in the clinical environment.
