- £130,000 Director Package We are seeking an experienced Bid Director to lead the bid and pre-construction function for a major MEP construction business based in Gatwick, London.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for managing the full bid lifecycle, leading a dedicated bid team, and driving successful tender submissions across complex MEP projects.

The successful candidate will come from a strong MEP background , with experience in either pre-construction, estimating, tender management, or commercial bid leadership .

A deep understanding of MEP systems and construction delivery is essential, as this role requires the ability to review technical requirements, develop winning bid strategies, and coordinate input from engineering, commercial, design, and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the Bid Team, providing strategic direction and support throughout the tender process.

Take ownership of the full bid lifecycle from opportunity identification through to submission and handover.

Develop bid strategies, ensuring submissions are technically robust, commercially competitive, and aligned with client requirements.

Manage the preparation of high-quality tender submissions, proposals, presentations, and commercial documentation.

Coordinate with pre-construction, estimating, engineering, design, procurement, and operations teams.

Review project requirements, specifications, drawings, and technical documentation to develop accurate bid responses.

Provide leadership on pricing strategies, value engineering opportunities, risk assessments, and commercial considerations.

Ensure all bids are delivered within agreed timescales and meet company quality standards.

Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

Lead bid reviews, lessons learned sessions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Mentor and develop members of the bid and pre-construction teams.

Support transition from successful bid award into project delivery teams.

Requirements Proven experience leading bids within the MEP construction sector (essential).

Strong background in pre-construction, estimating, tender management, or commercial bid leadership .

Extensive knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical building services.

Experience delivering bids for large-scale projects such as: Data Centres Mission Critical Facilities Industrial Projects Commercial Developments Pharmaceutical / Life Science Projects Ability to understand complex MEP designs, specifications, and construction methodologies.

Strong leadership skills with experience managing and developing teams.

Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities.

Commercially aware with strong negotiation and analytical skills.

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tender deadlines.

Desirable Experience Experience working for an MEP contractor or specialist engineering contractor.

Previous experience within the data centre or mission-critical sector. xwzovoh

Experience managing large-value tenders (£50m).

Strong understanding of NEC/JCT contracts and commercial processes.
