Business Development Manager – Fire Safety & Construction £50-55k basic + Car Allowance + Commission Are you a successful Business Development Manager selling into architects, specifiers, contractors, housebuilders or housing associations? This is an opportunity to join an established specialist within the fire safety and compliance sector, taking responsibility for developing new business across the UK built environment. You don't need to come directly from fire safety. We’re equally interested in strong architectural specification, construction product and building product sales professionals who have a proven track record of winning business and influencing projects through architects, specifiers and the wider construction supply chain. The opportunity You'll be responsible for identifying, developing and converting new business opportunities, targeting customers including: * Architects & architectural practices * Specifiers & consultants * Tier 1 contractors * Housebuilders & developers * Housing associations * Other organisations across the built environment This is a proactive new-business position where you'll have the autonomy to develop your territory, identify key accounts and build a strong pipeline of opportunities. You'll lead customer conversations to understand their requirements, risks and commercial drivers before working alongside technical specialists to develop the right solution. The original brief places particular emphasis on proactive business generation, discovery, tailored solutions, proposals, negotiation and closing profitable business. What you'll be doing * Developing and executing a targeted territory and key-account plan * Identifying and approaching new prospective customers * Building senior relationships across the construction and specification market * Generating your own opportunities through proactive business development * Understanding customer requirements, projects and decision-making processes * Working with technical teams to develop tailored solutions * Preparing and presenting compelling commercial proposals * Managing multiple stakeholders throughout the sales cycle * Negotiating and closing profitable new business * Developing a strong, sustainable sales pipeline * Providing accurate CRM reporting and forecasting Who we're looking for There are two backgrounds we're particularly interested in. You may already work within fire safety, fire consultancy, testing, inspection, certification or compliance, and be looking for an opportunity with greater responsibility for new-business growth. Or, you could be a high-performing sales professional from the architectural specification, construction products or building products sector. If you're coming from construction products, we're more interested in the quality of your sales experience and customer relationships than whether you've previously sold fire safety services. You'll ideally be able to demonstrate: * A strong track record of winning new business * Experience selling through architects and/or specifiers * Relationships with contractors, developers, housebuilders or housing associations * Experience selling a technical, specification-led or consultative proposition * The ability to influence projects and multiple decision-makers * Strong commercial and negotiation skills * Confidence discussing pricing, value and margin * A proactive approach to developing your own pipeline The original brief also calls for strong commercial awareness around pricing, margins, contracts and customer outcomes. Interested? If you're an ambitious Business Development Manager, Specification Sales Manager, Architectural Sales Manager or Construction Product Sales professional who knows how to develop relationships and win business across the built environment, we'd like to hear from you. Fire safety experience is welcomed, but it isn't essential if you bring a strong construction/specification sales background. Apply today for a confidential discussion
