Job Description

LAW Absolute are seeking an experienced Child Protection Paralegal to join a busy local authority legal team in London. This is an interim role for three months initially.

To be considered, candidates must have demonstrable experience working within Child Protection law and be proficient in the use of IKEN Case Management Systems (or a similar legal case management platform), electronic court bundle systems, and the Family Proceedings Portal (FPL).


Key Responsibilities


The successful candidate will support solicitors and legal professionals across a broad range of duties, including:



  • Assisting solicitors in the conduct of Child Protection cases.


Instructing experts, counsel, and external suppliers on behalf of the legal team.


Raising purchase orders and receipting goods to ensure timely payment of suppliers and services.


Managing diaries, scheduling meetings, and responding to telephone and email enquiries.


Drafting, proofreading, and preparing legal documents and correspondence.


Undertaking legal research and preparing reports.


Analysing and inputting data, and preparing articles for internal and external circulation where required.


Organising and maintaining case files and legal documentation.


Transcribing legal opinions and compiling court bundles.


Preparing electronic court bundles and uploading documentation to digital court platforms.


Clerking and delivering bundles and documents to courts, including the High Court where necessary.


Liaising with business support teams to ensure actions are progressed efficiently and within deadlines.


Undertaking general office administration, including billing activities and drafting correspondence.


Maintaining compliant working practices, processes, and procedures.


Recording time and matter information on electronic time recording and case management systems.


Attending meetings and taking accurate notes on behalf of solicitors.



Essential Requirements



  • Previous experience working as a Paralegal within Child Protection law.


Knowledge of local government legal services and court processes.


Experience using IKEN or an equivalent legal case management system.


Proficiency in preparing and managing electronic court bundles.


Experience using the Family Proceedings Portal (FPL).


Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.



The pay rate for this role is £18.30 PAYE or £23.23 umbrella.
