What We're Looking For
Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
Minimum of 2 years' experience within residential childcare in the previous 5 years
Minimum of 1 year's experience in a supervisory or management position within residential childcare
Strong knowledge of Children's Homes Regulations (England) 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements
Experience supporting children with EBD, trauma and attachment-related needs
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Excellent leadership, people management and communication skills
Ability to build positive relationships with children, families and external professionals
Passion for therapeutic, trauma-informed and child-centred care
Full UK Driving Licence
Enhanced DBS clearance
Previous experience as an Ofsted Registered Manager (desirable)
Experience opening a new children's home or improving Ofsted inspection outcomes (desirable)
Training or experience in PACE, NVR, therapeutic parenting or trauma-informed practice (desirable)
Understanding of attachment theory and developmental trauma (desirable)
Key Responsibilities
Take overall responsibility for the leadership, management and development of the 3-bed children's home
Provide inspirational, child-centred leadership to the residential care team
Establish and maintain a positive therapeutic culture throughout the home
Recruit, supervise, develop and retain a high-performing staff team
Conduct regular staff supervision, appraisals and team meetings
Promote reflective practice and continuous professional development
Ensure the delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed care
Embed PACE and Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) approaches into everyday practice
Ensure children's wishes, feelings and voices remain central to decision-making
Monitor children's progress and ensure care plans remain effective and appropriate
Promote positive educational, health, emotional and social outcomes
Take overall responsibility for safeguarding within the home
Manage safeguarding incidents, allegations and complaints effectively
Liaise with local authorities, social workers and safeguarding professionals where required
Ensure full compliance with Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards, Ofsted requirements and organisational policies
Lead Ofsted inspections and monitoring visits
Complete Regulation 45 Quality of Care Reviews and oversee resulting action plans
Monitor service performance, quality and compliance and drive continuous improvement
Maintain high standards of recording, documentation and regulatory compliance
Develop strong relationships with placing authorities, education providers and healthcare professionals
Attend reviews, planning meetings and other professional forums
Oversee referrals, matching and admissions to the home
Manage occupancy effectively within the 3-bed service
Monitor budgets and resources
Ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained in line with children's needs and regulatory requirements
Oversee health and safety compliance across the home
