Job description

20 hours per week, 42 weeks per year

Monday - Friday, plus 15 out of term cleaning days

We are currently looking for a Cleaning Supervisor to join our team in Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw. Reporting to the Business Manager you will manage a highly dynamic team to provide an efficient and effective cleaning service for our school to ensure high standards of cleaning are delivered and maintained.

In September 2022, Ysgol Gymraeg Gwynllyw was opened as an all-age school, as our primary department welcomed its first pupils.

We have an enthusiastic team of staff here at Gwynllyw, who are dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of learning and teaching and learner achievement.

Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw opened as the first Welsh comprehensive school in the old county of Gwent in 1988 and since that time, it is nice to see Welsh education flourishing in this area. The school is located on the outskirts of the historic town of Pont-y-pool, and is very convenient to the big towns, Cardiff (about half an hour), Newport (about quarter of an hour), very central to the M4 and M5 motorways and motorway The Heads of the Valleys leading to Merthyr, Abergavenny and Hereford. The school also works closely with other Welsh secondary schools in developing our new curriculum and various professional development opportunities are offered as part of this.

Job role:

  • To supervise the cleaning of the school buildings, leading a team of cleaning staff.
  • To ensure, individually and as part of a team, the cleaning of the designated areas to ensure they are kept in a clean and hygienic condition.
  • Ensure that a control system for cleaning materials is maintained and take responsibility for ordering supplies of cleaning materials.
  • Organising and monitoring the hours of the cleaning staff, including completion and submission of timesheets.
  • To arrange continuity of service through arranging cover for staff absence.
  • To plan and co-ordinate the use of Equipment, Labour and Materials in the effective performance of this Cleaning Contract.

Closing date: 1 st September 2026

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A comprehensive screening process will be undertaken on all successful applicants, which will include an Enhanced check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.
