Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics
Job summary
This job description is for a Senior Clinical fellow in Obstetrics at ST3+ level with a special interest in Maternity Triage. Many opportunities available for those wishing to pursue ATSMs. The post holder will be an integral part of the general obstetrics team, working at Northwick Park Hospital.
Northwick Park Hospital is a busy acute hospital in Harrow with a purpose-built maternity unit including delivery suite, obstetric HDU, in-patient facilities, day assessment and clinic facilities. There is a level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care unit. Gynaecology in patient and theatre facilities are located within the main hospital. The hospital has comprehensive imaging facilities including CT and MRI suites.
The obstetric workload is consists of mostly high-risk patients with diverse medical conditions. There are specialised clinics for diabetes, maternal medicine, haematological conditions, and multiple pregnancy. The labour ward has 98 hours consultant presence and further on call cover. This is separate from the gynaecology consultant cover. Antenatal clinics are at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex. There is a high-risk delivery suite with a purpose built the Maternity triage, on suite delivery rooms, observation bay and recovery area and two maternity theatres. There is also midwifery led ward for low-risk women and those wishing to have a water birth.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will work at Northwick Park hospital, in the Maternity department, specifically within Maternity triage. They will provide Obs assessment and management of patients presenting to triage. The service has implemented the BSOTS and the appointee should be familiar with the system and be able to work with the midwifery team to ensure patients are seen on time.
Excellent communication skills, team working and a patient focus approach is essential for this role.
There is no on call commitment but there will be weekend working.
Flexibility is a desired feature for any post holder. We are a busy department and occasionally it is necessary to modify the individual timetable should there be acute and unexpected shortage of staff. The individual job plan will be discussed in detail with the successful candidate.
The appointee will be answerable directly to Clinical Director and Labour Ward Lead Consultant.
