Job summary

The Neurophysiology Department at Dorset County Hospital is a progressive, patient focused department and is highly regarded by the clinical teams that use our services.

The department is a busy district general hospital department providingEMG and EEG, video-telemetry, evoked potential, and EEG service in adults and children.

The proposed interview date for this role is 16 November 2026.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be required to participate in the urgent adult and paediatric EEG reporting, which currently provides an in-hours weekday service.

The day-to-day activities will include performing or supervising reporting of EEG and home-video-telemetry, support clinical meetings and case discussions, and conduct EMG or other specialty clinics.

The post-holders will also be responsible for supervising and guiding physiologists within the Neurophysiology department.

Job responsibilities

The candidate will be able to express a subspecialty interest to complement the department, with scope to undertake subspecialist activity in NCS/EMG, EEG, VT, or sleep work. There is currently no on-call commitment.

Person specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • An appropriate higher surgical/medical qualification
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via. CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6mths of interview for appointment to substantive consultant role), CESR or European Community Rights

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Can demonstrate clear evidence of Clinical Neurophysiology experience in EMG, NCS, EP, EEG reporting of all age groups
  • Presentation / publication of audit Original publications in Peer Review Neurophysiological journals EEG reporting of all age groups

Current Skills and abilities

Essential

  • Willingness and ability to fulfil the general service elements of the job description
  • Evidence of the clinical skills required to fulfil the specialty and subspecialty elements of the post as in the job description and technical specification
