CNC Turner / Setter Operator
Sheffield
£39,672 + Overtime
How good could you become with the right machines, training and engineering around you?
If you're an experienced CNC Turner who takes pride in your work and wants to develop into a genuinely high-level precision machinist, this could be an opportunity worth exploring.
You'll join a growing advanced manufacturing business producing complex components for the aerospace, defence, nuclear and energy sectors.
Working with modern DMG Mori CNC Turning Centres, you'll machine challenging materials including Titanium, Inconel and other nickel alloys, producing components where tolerances can be measured in single-digit microns.
You don't need to arrive with aerospace experience.
You do need good CNC turning fundamentals, genuine setting experience and the desire to keep developing.
The engineering
This is small-batch, high-precision manufacturing rather than simply loading components and pressing cycle start.
You'll take responsibility for setting, tooling, offsets and self-inspection, working from controlled production information to manufacture complex components to exacting standards.
You'll also work alongside experienced Manufacturing Engineers who develop and optimise machining strategies using Siemens NX CAD/CAM and Vericut simulation, giving you exposure to an advanced manufacturing environment and the opportunity to continue developing your technical capability.
What we're looking for
You'll need:
* CNC turning experience with genuine setting responsibility
* An engineering apprenticeship and/or strong time-served machining experience
* Experience working to tight tolerances and inspecting your own work
* Confidence with tooling, tool changes and offsets
* Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern
* Most importantly, the attitude to keep learning and become better at what you do
Experience with Fanuc controls, DMG Mori machines, 3/5-axis machining, aerospace components or difficult materials would be advantageous, but we don't expect every candidate to arrive with everything.
Relevant backgrounds could include aerospace, medical, automotive, oil & gas or high-precision subcontract machining.
The opportunity
The business has grown significantly and continues to invest in manufacturing technology and its people.
For the right machinist, that means the opportunity to work with sophisticated equipment, learn from experienced engineers, develop experience with demanding materials and increasingly complex components, and build a career in advanced manufacturing.
Salary: £39,672
Overtime is available and paid at enhanced rates.
If you're already a good CNC Turner but feel you're capable of becoming considerably better, I'd be interested in speaking with you.
