Consultant Anaesthetist withan interest in Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) and Outreach

12 PA permanent position

Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are looking for an enthusiastic, forward-thinking substantive Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in Intensive Critical Medicine. The successful candidate will work alongside the existing team to help grow, develop and innovate the service to meet modern standards of care.

The successful candidate will join a team of highly dedicated medical, nursing and other professionals committed to providing a high-quality service to our patients with the brand new Maternity Theatre facilities.

Main duties of the job

  • You will participate in a 1:9 Consultant-of-the-Week rota, which includes providing Critical Care cover from 08:00 to 18:00, as well ason-calls and a weekend Outreach rota.

  • You will join a team of 22 Consultants with several Specialists and Specialty Doctors supporting all general services of the hospital, including a busy Accident and Emergency department, Theatres covering Maternity, Trauma, Gynaecology and ENT.

  • Lead Assessments of the deteriorating patient for emergency admission to the Intensive Care Unit.

  • Lead the team in managing pre and post-operative theatre admissions.

  • Participate in clinical audit, governance and quality improvement.

  • Demonstrate evidence-based practice where appropriate.

  • Undertake and participate in the appraisal process and job planning.

  • Satisfy the criteria for revalidation.

  • Contribute to service development in areas of special interest and expertise.

  • Actively participate in continuing medical education.

  • Undertake personal appraisal and job-planning as part of revalidation.

  • Maintain all mandatory training requirements.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB ChB/BS or EEA equivalent
  • FRCA (Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists) or equivalent
  • Inclusion on the GMC's Specialist Register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
  • Full and current GMC registration with License to practice
  • FFICM (Fellow of Faculty of ICM)

Professional Interests

  • Involvement in governance activities, including audits, incident reviews, and quality improvement projects related Critical Care

Teaching

Essential

  • Interest and ability in teaching undergraduates, postgraduates and paramedical staff

  • Competence in invasive procedures relevant to critical care practice (e.g., vascular access, arterial lines, advanced airway skills)
  • Ability to provide safe, effective clinical handover and continuity of care across multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong clinical reasoning skills with the ability to analyse and synthesise complex information to make timely decisions in high-pressure environments
