Job summary
- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients with congenital heart disease and aortopathy
Share with colleagues the responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients with congenital heart disease and aortopathy
Promote new ways of working and coordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community
Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences
Supervise and train junior medical staff
Be involved in appraising and assessing juniors
Develop roles in teaching, research and clinical leadership
Proactively develop the service
Actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
Main duties of the job
The job plan can be divided into generic ACHD sessions at Glenfield (clinics, ward rounds, MDT meeting contribution and on-call duties), generic ACHD sessions within the Network (clinics) and sub-specialty sessions in ACHD cardiac imaging (MRI) and sessions related to thoracic aortopathy (clinics, MDT meetings, imaging session). The job plan will be subject to annual review, with any revisions sought by mutual agreement but it is expected that the successful candidate will work with the CMG management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice with processes and governance to match - this may require new and flexible ways of working in the future.
Whole time consultants within the Trust are allocated 1.5 PA's for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) in order to support the requirements of revalidation, which include activities such as participating in audit, CPD and mandatory training. Up to a further 1 PA may be made available for SPA by mutual agreement with the CMG as part of the job planning process. This must constitute appropriate verifiable SPA activity that supports an individual's professional development and provides benefit to UHL. Where a consultant decides not to undertake additional SPA over and above 1.5 PA's or where those opportunities have not been identified, suitable alternative clinical work will be offered to bring the job plan up to 10 PA's.
About us
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
