Consultant in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia
Job summary
We areseekingto appoint a substantive Consultant inAdultCardiothoracic Anaesthesia based at the world-renowned Royal Brompton Hospital. The successful applicant will work within the department of the Royal Brompton Hospitalwiththe opportunity for work across areas of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
Inaddition to holding full GMC registration and specialist registration in Anaesthesia or equivalentandFRCA or equivalent, the successful candidate will be in possession of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent or be within 6 months of possession at the time of interview. A minimum of two years of experience in adult cardiothoracic anaesthesia at Fellow and/or Consultant level is essential. Experience in adult congenital heart disease, aorto-vascular, vascular, pre-assessment, interventional radiology, diagnostic bronchoscopy and cardiothoracic critical care is desirable. A UK, European or American qualification in transoesophageal echocardiography is also desirable.

Main duties of the job
Main clinical duties will be inadultcardiothoracic anaesthesia, catheter labs,interventional radiology,diagnosticbronchoscopyand pre-assessment.There may be a requirement to deliveryaortovascularanaesthesia. Some of the job plan will be fixed days with flexible working.
The appointee willbe requiredtoparticipatein an adult on-call rota and the frequency of this will be medium, although this may change according to the number of consultants on the rota.Emergency work arising from on-call duties will be considered in assessing the number of programmed activities for on-call in the agreed job plan.

Job responsibilities
- Providing anaesthetic support to emergency and elective services across cardiothoracic services including participating in the on-call rota.
- Providing anaesthetic support for diagnostic bronchoscopy and interventional radiology.
- When required, provide anaesthetic support for pre-assessment clinics and post op cardiac critical care.
- Participate fully in clinical audit and clinical governance including attendance at relevant meetings.
- Undertake teaching and training locally and nationally.

Professional Qualifications
Essential
- Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
- Applicants must be on the specialist register, or if on the CCT programme be within six months of award of this by date of interview.
- FRCA or equivalent
- Evidence of continuous professional development

- TOE Accreditation
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Adult Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia with at least 24 months as advanced trainee/fellow/Locum Consultant
- Minimum 12 months experience of Cardiothoracic Critical Care
Desirable
- Experience of Adult Congenital Heart Disease
- Experience of Anaesthesia for interventional radiology and diagnostic/therapeutic bronchoscopy
- Experience in Aortovascular/Vascular Anaesthesia
- Experience in Pre-Assessment
Clinical Skills
Essential
- Technical skills required for Adult Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia as evidenced by SIA (or equivalent) in cardiothoracic anaesthesia.
