Job summary

We are delighted to advertise an exciting opportunity in the newly formed department of General Internal Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work in a combined role with Renal Medicine, building a collaborative team of Consultants who will deliver a high-quality internal medicine service, alongside Renal Medicine interests in a flexible working pattern.

Each post is 1.0 WTE, with 0.5 WTE GIM and 0.5 WTE Renal Medicine. For their GIM responsibilities, the post holders will be responsible for inpatient care on ward 513 as the newly formed internal medicine ward, with a one in 6 pattern, including weekends. The remaining 5 weeks are flexible in working pattern and focus predominately on specialty work, with a small component of GIM activity including a weekly MDT, educational activities, monthly governance and SPA time. There is a small component of on call (1-2 weekends per year) for renal medicine, and we welcome applications from those who would like to work flexibly on non-ward weeks.

The renal medicine aspect of this post will have three main components:

1.Delivery of care to haemodialysis patients in a satellite dialysis unit

2.General nephrology clinic

1.Supporting delivery of care and service development for virtual CKD services and the primary/secondary care interface for patients with low risk CKD.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of dual accredited Consultants, building the department of General Internal Medicine alongside specialty work. Inpatient work will be focussed around the new Internal Medicine ward with a 1:6 week and weekend frequency. The remaining 5 weeks will be predominately based in specialty work focussed around general nephrology including haemodialysis patient care, outpatient clinics and developing primary/secondary care interface.

We are searching for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in building a department of internal medicine, as well as developing renal medicine services in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Entered on GMC register
  • Dual CCT/Portfolio Pathway in GIM and Renal Medicine, or equivalent within 6 months at the time of interview
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
