Job summary

This is an exciting replacement Consultant post offering a balanced job plan of10 Programmed Activities (PAs). There is excellent potential to increase toSPA sessions through the development of additional departmental leadership, educational, research, or quality improvement roles.

The role provides a varied mix of Pain Management and Anaesthesia, offering opportunities to develop specialist expertise while contributing to a supportive, multidisciplinary team. Indicative duties are outlined in the job description.

The successful candidate will play a key role within the Pain Service, leading a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic and undertaking a day-case interventional procedure list. The postholder will also be supported to gain expertise in the active management of intrathecal drug delivery systems.

Anaesthetic commitments incorporates a combination of fixed and flexible sessions, dependent on the successful candidate's clinical interests and the needs of the service.

Consultants are expected to work closely withPhysician Associates in Anaesthesia (PAAs), providing clinical supervision, typically on a 2:1 basis, or 1:1 in higher-turnover environments such as trauma theatres.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant professional qualifications
  • Degree from a recognised University

Desirable

  • FFPMRCA Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST/CST
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the care of patients and offer expert clinical opinion in the specialty

Desirable

  • Training/experience in Intrathecal Pump management and refill
  • Experience in undertaking ultrasound-guided interventional procedures.
  • Ability to manage and lead the specialist unit if required

GMC Registration

Essential

  • Eligible for entry in GMC specialist register (within 6 months)
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
