Job summary

This is a full time Resident Consultantpost inObstetrics &Gynaecology. It is a replacement post and attracts 10 Programmed Activities. There are two Consultant positions.

The duties include Gynaecology and Ante-natal out patient clinics, special interest clinics, operating sessions and labour ward cover. You will be expected to assist the gynaecology cancer lead in the running of Gynaecology Cancer MDT meetings, two week wait clinics and early-stage cancer operative treatment where these have been devolved by the regional centre for local treatment.

It would be expected that you would not be covering services on other sites or in private practice when on call.

Application for thissubstantivepost will only be accepted if you hold full GMC registration with a license to practice and entry on the Specialist Register or anticipating being in receipt of CCT/Professional Portfolio (formally CESR) within six months of interview.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to assist the gynaecology cancer lead in the running of Gynaecology Cancer MDT meetings, two week wait clinics and early-stage cancer operative treatment where these have been devolved by the regional centre for local treatment

You will be an experienced gynaecological surgeon with expertise in minimal access surgery and treatment of acute Gynaecological emergencies. The post will attract 10 Programmed Activities per week including a resident on call once a week and a 1:9 share of day time weekends.

About us

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay

Education & Qualifications

Essential

  • oEntry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
  • oMRCOG
  • oAn obstetric based ATSM
  • oGynaecology ATSM

Desirable

  • oMedical education qualification
  • oATSM acute gynaecology and early pregnancy

Experience

Essential

  • oExperience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
  • oActive involvement in clinical audit

Desirable

  • Experience of contributing to requirements for CNST or other external regulators

Skills, ability and knowledge

Essential

  • oSound understanding of risk management

  • oAbility to draw on evidence to contribute to departmental guidelines
