An established and growing civil engineering contractor is looking to appoint an experienced
Contract Manager
to lead the successful delivery of multiple infrastructure projects across Yorkshire and the North East. Working across highways, public realm, flood alleviation, active travel and bridge schemes, you'll oversee projects from pre-construction through to completion, ensuring they are delivered safely, on programme and within budget. You'll be responsible for managing several civil engineering projects simultaneously, leading multidisciplinary teams while driving operational, commercial and health & safety performance across your portfolio. Key Responsibilities
Project Delivery
Lead multiple civil engineering projects from pre-construction to completion
Coordinate project teams to deliver works safely, on time and within budget
Manage project programmes and resource planning
Oversee project performance and resolve delivery challenges
Build strong relationships with clients, consultants and stakeholders
Health, Safety & Quality
Champion a positive health and safety culture across all projects
Ensure compliance with HSE legislation and CDM Regulations
Carry out regular Health & Safety and quality audits
Lead HSEQ initiatives and continuous improvement activities
Promote best practice across project teams
Design & Technical Management
Manage external design consultants and design delivery
Coordinate pre-construction planning and project mobilisation
Identify innovative engineering solutions that improve programme and cost
Ensure technical compliance throughout project delivery
Commercial Management
Work closely with commercial teams to maximise project profitability
Review CVRs, forecasts and project financial performance
Support NEC and JCT contract administration
Monitor subcontractor performance and commercial compliance
Present monthly project and commercial updates to senior leadership
Business Development
Build long-term relationships with clients and key stakeholders
Support tender submissions and pre-construction activities
Represent the business at client meetings and tender interviews
Identify opportunities for future work and business growth
Leadership
Lead, mentor and develop Project Managers, Site Managers and Engineers
Promote a collaborative, high-performing team culture
Support staff development, appraisals and succession planning
Drive continuous improvement across project delivery
About You
We're looking for someone with: Significant experience managing multiple civil engineering projects
Proven background delivering infrastructure projects valued at
£10m+ annually
Strong experience within highways, public realm, bridges, flood alleviation or infrastructure
Excellent knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams
Strong commercial awareness, including CVRs and project reporting
Excellent client-facing and leadership skills
SMSTS and CSCS
Desirable
Degree, HNC or NVQ Level 5 in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
Membership of ICE, CIOB or another relevant professional body
Leadership or management training
Experience working with local authorities and public sector clients
