An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Controls Systems Engineer to join the business as part of the Software Systems Capability function. As a Control System Design Engineer within the Mission Critical and Health Monitoring team, you will work within a capability to develop solutions to deliver and maintain features that enhance the product offering. You will develop software within a framework of systems utilising hand-code and model-based development techniques as appropriate and required. A variety of coding languages and software development knowledge is required, hence a flexible mindset focussed on integration and problem solving is necessary. The Controls Systems Engineer shall specify, design and validate complex sub-systems, including high-level requirements for the software and / or hardware system components, this will include creation of mathematical models and simulations of control and actuation systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the on-time delivery and quality of the controls sub-system and the artefacts associated with the design, verification and validation of the system. This shall be achieved through decomposition of designs and development of tests, analysis to ensure that the system implementation satisfies the validated requirements. Analyse and translate high level requirements into a validated design for the control and instrumentation system. Capture applicable design constraints (must meet conditions) and quality attributes (may be traded) that apply to the control and instrumentation system. Design and implement the control and instrumentation system to meet the high-level requirements and design constraints/standards. Analyse the control and instrumentation system for functional behaviour, which may include modelling and simulation to demonstrate that the design meets the high-level requirements. Provide targeted testing of control and instrumentation system functionality to support problem investigation and problem closures and customer issues. Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components of the system to facilitate effective component design. May be required to participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for the department, in conjunction with the department managers. May be required to develop, implement, document, and maintain policies, procedures, associated guidelines, tools and training as required. Develop the knowledge required to provide advice to project teams and be able to create, search, and reuse knowledge with some guidance from established practitioners. Design sub-systems to meet the functional requirements and design constraints by analysis and translation of customer requirements into a set of validated functional requirements for the system or sub-systems. Analyses requirements for testability. May be required to performs detailed performance analyses of existing and future controls systems. Ensure robust and optimal (weight, cost, etc) designs and problem solutions through the effective application of appropriate engineering tools and applicable processes. Working knowledge of domain plant and platform interfaces, component technology and behaviour during normal and abnormal operation, verification vehicles, controls design, system architecture, software and/or hardware architecture, and software and hardware development process constraints. A working appreciation of associated engineering disciplines. Proficient in design and analysis tools. Professional courage to highlight areas of concern and risk with regard to suitability of a product to meet its requirements in a safe and functionally appropriate way. An ability to interpret test results and provide an informed opinion or conclusion as to the outcome of the analysis. An ability to identify and manage risk in collaboration with team members. Strong problem-solving skills, and an ability to understand the level of analysis required. Dynamically respond to evolving objectives and emerging opportunities while working in coordination with a multidisciplinary, energetic team of engineers and scientists. Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, able to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language. Able to research application issues and products by being outward focussed and able to seek solutions/information from outside of immediate area, including suppliers, universities, customers, related industries. Skilled at working within a team-oriented, collaborative environment or as a sole contributor on identified projects. Keen to develop capability through appropriate training courses and workshops.
