Job Role: Cover Tutor – Functional Skills Maths & English Location: HMP Brixton Salary: From £30,000 per annum + £5,000 London Weighting Contract: Permanent, full-time    Role Overview We are recruiting an enthusiastic and adaptable Cover Tutor – Functional Skills Maths & English to deliver high-quality education within a custodial environment at HMP Brixton. As a Cover Tutor, you will support learners to develop essential literacy and numeracy skills through the delivery of City & Guilds Functional Skills qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2. Working with small groups of learners, you will help individuals build confidence, achieve qualifications and develop the skills needed to progress into employment, further learning and successful rehabilitation. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator who enjoys working with diverse learners and can create engaging, inclusive learning experiences that inspire positive outcomes.    Key Responsibilities Teaching, Learning & Delivery Deliver Functional Skills Maths and/or English qualifications from Entry Level 1 to Level 2 Plan and deliver engaging, learner-focused lessons that promote achievement and progression Adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs and abilities Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment Use a variety of teaching methods and digital resources to maximise learner engagement Promote confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours Assessment & Learner Progression Conduct initial assessments and utilise BKSB diagnostics to identify learner starting points Develop, implement and review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) Monitor learner progress against agreed targets and qualification requirements Prepare learners for examinations and assessments Provide constructive feedback and ongoing learner support Implement reasonable adjustments where required Learner Support & Development Support learners with additional learning needs and barriers to education Promote literacy, numeracy and reading for pleasure across the prison environment Encourage learners to achieve personal, educational and employment goals Work collaboratively with learners to build confidence and resilience Quality, Compliance & Partnership Working Maintain accurate learner records, assessments and documentation Ensure delivery meets awarding body, quality assurance and contractual requirements Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion at all times Work closely with prison staff, support practitioners and employability teams Contribute to continuous improvement and quality assurance processes    Essential Criteria Level 3 qualification in Maths and English Teaching qualification at Level 5 or above (PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS or equivalent), or willingness to work towards Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and/or English qualifications Strong lesson planning, classroom management and learner engagement skills Experience supporting learners with varying abilities and educational backgrounds Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs Excellent communication, organisational and administration skills Commitment to safeguarding, equality, diversity and learner success    Desirable Criteria Experience within prison education, adult learning or further education Experience using BKSB or similar diagnostic assessment tools Knowledge of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (EIF) Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) qualification or willingness to work towards Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs    Personal Attributes Passionate about education and learner development Patient, engaging and supportive Flexible and adaptable approach to delivery Strong communication and relationship-building skills Positive role model with a learner-centred approach Committed to helping learners achieve their full potential    Additional Information Based on site at HMP Brixton Role subject to enhanced DBS clearance and prison vetting Opportunity to make a meaningful impact through education and rehabilitation Ongoing professional development and training opportunities available       How to Apply For more information or to apply for the Cover Tutor – Functional Skills Maths & English role, please contact: Robert Rowe on (phone number removed) or email (url removed)
