Credit Controller

SF Recruitment are working with an established business in Birmingham to recruit a Credit Controller into a small, hands-on finance team. This is a varied credit role combining day-to-day collections with responsibility for a consumer loans portfolio. You'll manage your own debt position, deal directly with customers and work closely with the wider business to resolve issues and keep aged debt within target. What You'll Be Doing Managing B2C credit control across a portfolio of customers, alongside some small business accounts Chasing outstanding balances by phone and email and resolving payment queries Monitoring aged debt and working towards agreed 60- and 90-day debt targets Supporting the administration of an active loans portfolio of approximately 400 accounts Preparing Direct Debit collection files and updating internal systems with payments Managing failed or defaulted payments and agreeing appropriate next steps with customers Escalating more difficult debts through external recovery agencies where required Supporting court recovery processes where appropriate, including Money Claims Helping review and improve the existing debt recovery process, including working with external collection partners Producing regular debt reporting for the wider business Processing receipts, refunds and supporting bank and client account reconciliations Working closely with internal teams to resolve issues affecting collection What You'll Bring Previous Credit Control experience, ideally within a B2C or mixed B2B/B2C environment Confidence dealing with challenging conversations and customers who are unwilling or unable to pay Strong communication and negotiation skills Good Excel skills and confidence picking up new finance systems A practical, hands-on approach and strong attention to detail Experience of debt recovery, external collection agencies or Money Claims would be particularly useful What You'll Get in Return 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays Company pension Hybrid working following successful completion of probation
