Job responsibilities
Role PurposeTo provide routin dental care for patients in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, including visitors to the region requiring unscheduled dental care.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care & Patient ExperienceDeliver high-quality routine dental care to NHS and private patients (adults and children).
Apply current best practice and evidence-based guidance in areas such as:
o Clinical examination and record keeping
o Oral health prevention strategies
o Radiography
o Antimicrobial prescribing
o Management of acute dental conditions
o Dental trauma (adult and paediatric)
o Endodontic emergencies
o Consent and documentation of extractions
o Treatment of patients with complex needs or medical histories
Maintain awareness of referral pathways and patient access routes, including stabilisation clinics.
Provide thorough clinical documentation to support continuity of care.
Treat target numbers of patients efficiently while ensuring excellent patient experience.
Professional Conduct & StandardsAdhere to the standards set out by the General Dental Council (GDC) and maintain full registration without conditions.
Comply with Smile Togethers internal policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
Maintain appropriate indemnity cover and NHS performer number.
Take personal responsibility for understanding and complying with all relevant codes of conduct and governance frameworks.
Professional DevelopmentMaintain a Personal Development Plan and up-to-date CPD log.
Engage in reflective practice and strive for continuous improvement.
Attend and actively contribute to peer review meetings, clinical audits, and development sessions.
Maintain mandatory training compliance and embrace ongoing changes in legislation, technologies, and clinical practice.
Participate in training through Smile Togethers Training Academy and external education providers.
Team Collaboration & FlexibilitySupport colleagues across Smile Together, including Early Years Dentists, Apprentice Nurses, and wider clinical teams.
Contribute to delivering unscheduled dental care services, including collaborative team temperature checks.
Represent Smile Together professionally as an ambassador for our mission, vision, and values.
Be willing to work from other locations when required, integrating into the local team as needed.
Organisational Engagement & ContributionActively engage in service development, planning sessions, and in-house meetings.
Work with the Clinical Director and operational leads to help drive service improvement.
Deliver in-house training sessions or webinars as required.
Play a key role in contributing to Smile Togethers success as a Social Enterprise by supporting community-focused oral health innovation.
Governance & SafetyMaintain safe working practices at all clinical sites and ensure compliance with clinical governance requirements.
Adhere to all health and safety procedures and promptly report incidents or near misses using the designated process.
Maintain strong IT skills, particularly in using the Practice Management System.
Other DutiesUndertake any additional reasonable responsibilities as requested by the Clinical Director or management team.
