We are seeking an exceptional and ambitious digital leader to join our senior Digital Services team as Deputy Chief Information Officer (Digital Services).

This role supports services across the full geography of our organisation and is not solely based in one location. We welcome applications from candidates across all areas served by the Trust and are keen to build a team that reflects the breadth of the communities and services we support. Regular travel across the geography will be required.

This is a rare opportunity to play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality, resilient and innovative digital services that support frontline community healthcare. Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer, you will provide operational leadership across a broad portfolio encompassing clinical systems, digital service delivery, technical architecture, cyber security, digital training and service transitions.

As a member of the senior digital leadership team, you will help shape and deliver our digital strategy, ensuring technology and innovation drive better outcomes for patients, staff and partner organisations.

Main duties of the job

About the Role

The Deputy CIO (Digital Services) will lead the operational delivery of critical digital services across the organisation. You will oversee clinical systems, digital infrastructure and service management functions, ensuring systems remain secure, reliable and aligned with NHS standards and best practice.

You will:

  • Lead and develop high-performing digital services teams.
  • Direct the delivery and continuous improvement of critical digital platforms and clinical systems.
  • Oversee the organisation's technical authority, providing leadership on architecture, standards, interoperability and digital assurance.
  • Drive cyber resilience, information governance and digital security compliance.
  • Lead digital service transitions, ensuring successful implementation and adoption of new technologies.
  • Manage supplier relationships, contracts and service level agreements.
  • Support innovation, research and emerging technologies that improve healthcare delivery.
  • Contribute to strategic planning, financial management and organisational transformation initiatives.

Job responsibilities

About You

We are looking for an inspirational leader with significant experience in digital service delivery, technology operations and transformation within a complex healthcare or public sector environment.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience leading digital services and operational technology teams.
  • Strong knowledge of NHS digital standards, cyber security, information governance and digital assurance requirements.
  • Experience managing clinical systems, digital platforms and digital transformation programmes.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at executive and board level.
  • Proven success leading change, service improvement and technology implementation programmes.
  • Experience managing complex supplier and partner relationships.
  • A collaborative leadership style that develops and empowers people and teams.
  • Strategic thinking combined with a practical approach to delivering results.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters in related subject or equivalent work experience
  • Recognised professional qualification in Information Management and/or Technology
  • Recognised management qualification e.g., ILM/CMI equivalent to the breadth of leadership responsibility of the role

Desirable

  • Intermediate or Expert qualification or equivalent experience in ITIL Service Management
  • Prince2 Project Management or equivalent Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive informatics experience at senior level
  • Extensive senior management experience including Personnel management
  • Knowledge and experience in programme and/or project management
  • Extensive financial management experience including writing business cases, options papers and investment requests
  • Knowledge of patient administration information systems and SystmOne
  • Extensive advance experience of data manipulation and report production with the ability to undertake multi-session transaction analysis
  • Advanced user of all MS Office modules
  • Proven ability to work in an organised and methodical manner
  • Highly developed analytical skills with the ability to analyse highly complex issues involving multiple factors
  • Detailed understanding of the current NHS national digital programmes and strategies

Desirable

  • Working in an ITIL environment
  • A good Knowledge of the NHS
