Job summary

We are looking for an exceptional and experienced senior leader to join NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board as Deputy Director of All Age Continuing Care (AACC).

Accountable to the Executive Nurse Director, you will provide strategic and professional leadership for the ICBs statutory AACC responsibilities, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, personalised and high-quality care across West Yorkshire.

You will lead service transformation, quality improvement, assurance and performance, working collaboratively with NHS partners, local authorities, independent and third-sector organisations, and patients and communities. You will also provide expert advice on commissioned services and service redesign, drive improvements in outcomes and reduce unwarranted variation.

We are seeking a credible, compassionate and resilient system leader with significant senior leadership experience, a strong understanding of the health and care landscape, and a proven track record of leading complex, system-wide change.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy Director of All Age Continuing Care, you will:

  • Provide strategic and professional leadership for the ICBs All Age Continuing Care function across West Yorkshire.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, personalised and high-quality care in line with statutory, regulatory and national requirements.
  • Lead service transformation, quality improvement and assurance programmes, reducing unwarranted variation and improving outcomes.
  • Oversee performance, activity and financial information to ensure services are effective, efficient and deliver value for money.
  • Work collaboratively with NHS organisations, local authorities and wider system partners to develop integrated services and jointly commissioned care.
  • Lead, inspire and develop multi-functional teams, creating a culture of inclusion, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Provide expert advice on commissioning, service redesign and national policy, translating strategic priorities into effective delivery.
  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders, partners, patients and communities, influencing across organisational boundaries to deliver system-wide change.
  • Manage significant budgets and resources, ensuring strong governance, financial control and sustainable delivery.

Job responsibilities

The Deputy Director of All Age Continuing Care (AACC) will provide strategic, professional and operational leadership for the ICBs statutory continuing care responsibilities across West Yorkshire.

The postholder will lead the delivery of safe, effective and personalised care, overseeing quality assurance, performance, service improvement, transformation and financial management. They will work collaboratively with NHS organisations, local authorities and wider partners to develop integrated services, improve outcomes and reduce unwarranted variation.

The role includes leading multi-functional teams, managing significant budgets and resources, providing expert advice on commissioning and service redesign, and ensuring compliance with national policy, professional, statutory and regulatory requirements.

As a senior system leader, the postholder will build effective partnerships, influence across organisational boundaries and translate national and local priorities into sustainable improvements for patients, families and communities.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Masters degree level education or equivalent experience; professional clinical qualification (e.g. nursing, AHP or social work); evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate leadership and/or management qualification.
Experience

Essential

  • Senior leadership of multi-function teams; leading complex/contentious change and service transformation; accountability for multi-million-pound budgets; multi-agency strategy and planning; influencing system-wide strategic change; translating policy into strategy and transformation; experience of highly sensitive situations involving patients, families, carers or advocates.

Desirable

  • Board-level experience; experience leading organisations.
Additional Requirements

Essential

  • In-depth knowledge of NHS, social care and local authority systems; NHS policy, planning, commissioning, performance and governance; AACC and improvement knowledge; ability to travel across the ICS/ICB footprint; flexible working, including occasional weekends; commitment to continuous improvement.
