Design Engineering Manager

Warwick, UK | Permanent | Up to 25% travel

We’re working with a global manufacturer of precision electronic and instrumentation products, supplying OEMs and distributors across agricultural, automotive, industrial, heavy truck, off‑road, construction and process equipment markets.

They’re looking for a Design Engineering Manager to lead their design engineering team through the full NPI lifecycle, concept development, design verification, design validation and product release, while staying close to the electronics themselves. This is a genuinely hands‑on leadership role. You’ll be as comfortable reviewing a schematic or signing off a PCB layout as you are running a kaizen event or coaching a team through a performance review.

Strong electronic product design experience is what matters here, not experience in any one specific product category. Candidates from automotive, industrial, aerospace, instrumentation or adjacent electronics backgrounds are all of genuine interest, provided the hands‑on PCB and systems design experience is there.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a multi‑site design engineering team, including mentoring, coaching and performance management
  • Provide engineering leadership throughout the NPI and development process
  • Drive Continuous Improvement projects and run kaizen events
  • Create schematics and generate Gerber files, drill plans, silkscreens and BOMs for new PCB applications
  • Compile parts lists, order components, assemble and test prototype PCB assemblies
  • Perform analysis, simulation and testing of electronic systems
  • Redesign and upgrade PCB designs as components become obsolete
  • Prepare specifications, test plans, control plans and APQP documentation
  • Interface with customers and support system and field testing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or related discipline
  • Several years of relevant electronic design experience, or equivalent combined experience and education
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Hands‑on experience with CAD tools, troubleshooting, soldering and PLC programs
  • Experience with manufacturing software and equipment (LabView, PLC, SolidWorks or similar)
  • Knowledge of interfacing sensor or signal output to PLC platforms is an advantage
  • Six Sigma, DOE or PCBA firmware/software exposure all a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
