This is a really exciting time to join our newly established outpatient pharmacy service 'Newcastle Pharmacy Services'. We provide an outpatient dispensing service to the patients of The Newcastle upon Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for motivated and dynamic individuals who thrive in a fast paced, energetic and friendly environment who are keen to develop themselves and the service.
Full Time 37.5 Hours/Week working Monday -Friday shifts 08:30 - 18:00. (shifts to be confirmed) - Part Time Hours Considered
Trustwide. Base at Freeman but expected to cover shifts at both sites when required.
Annual Leave - 27 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays
Pension: Nest Pension Scheme; 5% employee contribution and 3 % employers contribution
Pay Date: 28th of the month

To carry out the full range of Dispensing Assistant duties including the dispensing of prescriptions and orders.
Provide technical support to dispensary services including carrying out routine procedures in the ordering, distribution and storage of pharmaceutical stock.
About us
Our new outpatient pharmacy - Newcastle Pharmacy Services - has been operating since 1 December 2024 as a subsidiary of the Trust. This follows an announcement from Lloyds in August 2024, that it was withdrawing from its 64 Lloyds Pharmacy-branded hospital pharmacy sites across the country, including those at the Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospitals.

Please note it is a requirement of Newcastle Hospitals Pharmacy Services Ltd that all successful candidates who require a DBS for the post they have been offered pay for their DBS certificate. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first months pay.

Person specification
Qualifications & Education
Essential
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services OR a training programme accredited by the GPhC to an equivalent level to Pharmacy Services Skills NVQ Level 2 (QCF). If does not hold then expected to undertake and complete once in post.
Desirable
- GCSE (Min. Grade 4 or Grade C) or equivalent in Mathematics and English Language or previous relevant experience.
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Demonstrate good oral and written communication
- Previous experience dispensing prescriptions
- Knowledge of drug names and differences in formulations / pack sizes
Desirable
- Grandparent clause notification to the GPhc
- Knowledge of Hospital Pharmacy
- Evidence of understanding of Trust Business
- Experience of working in the Trust previously
