Driver and Trailer Assessor

Salary: £30,600 per annum

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00

Location: Newport (Travelling will be required)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced and safety-focused Driver and Trailer Assessor to join our Fleet team in Knowsley. This is a varied role that combines driver assessment, transport compliance, telematics and dash camera installation, driver coaching, and fleet safety monitoring.

Working closely with the Driver Trainer Manager, you will play a key role in promoting safe driving standards, ensuring compliance with transport regulations, and supporting continuous improvement across our fleet operation. This position is ideal for someone with transport industry experience who enjoys coaching and developing drivers while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct driver assessments and provide coaching to improve safety, compliance and efficiency.
  • Assess trailer operations, including coupling and uncoupling procedures, loading safety and defect reporting.
  • Monitor driver behaviour using telematics systems and dash camera footage.
  • Produce performance reports and provide constructive feedback to drivers.
  • Install, configure and maintain telematics devices and dash cameras across the fleet.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and liaise with suppliers where required.
  • Deliver Toolbox Talks and safety briefings to drivers and operational teams.
  • Carry out spot checks on vehicle walk-around inspections and daily defect reporting.
  • Ensure driver compliance with company policies, legal requirements and fleet procedures.
  • Support a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement throughout the business.

About You

You will have experience within transport or fleet operations and be confident working independently across multiple locations. You should possess strong communication skills with the ability to coach, influence and engage drivers positively.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience within transport operations or fleet management.
  • Qualified Driver Assessor or Driver Instructor.
  • Good knowledge of UK transport legislation and fleet compliance requirements.
  • Experience using telematics systems and reviewing driver performance data.
  • Experience delivering Toolbox Talks and conducting audits or compliance checks.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using technology and reporting systems.
