HSE & Assurance Director Job Overview Purpose Statement The Engineering Authority provides technical assurance, governance, and decision-making authority to ensure engineering activities are safe, compliant, and aligned with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practise. This role acts as the ultimate technical decision-maker within their discipline and is accountable for managing technical risk throughout the asset lifecycle. Additionally, the role provides leadership and management of all outsourced Technical Authority (TA) and Engineering service provision. Accountabilities & Key Role Deliverables Technical Decision-Making:

Serve as the designated Engineering Authority with ultimate authority to approve, challenge, or reject engineering decisions. Standards & Documentation:

Custodian of discipline engineering standards and asset engineering documentation to ensure compliance. Provide recommendations for approval of derogations and dispensations. Framework Governance:

Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Technical Authority Framework. Performance Standards:

Take overall ownership of the scope and quality of Safety Critical Elements and Equipment (SECE) performance standards. Ensure correct allocation of individual performance standards to the appropriate Technical Authority. Risk Management:

Identify, assess, and manage technical risks, ensuring they are reduced to ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable) or equivalent. Lead or contribute to hazard identification and technical risk assessments. Asset Integrity:

Ensure engineering decisions support safe operations, asset integrity, and optimal lifecycle performance. Escalation & Support:

Act as an escalation point for technical non-conformances and deviations. Support incident investigations by providing technical judgement and root cause analysis. Investigation Leadership:

Lead investigations using industry-standard techniques (e.g., Kelvin TopSet) to meet business requirements. Vendor Management:

Hold contract ownership and manage associated vendors and service providers. Continuous Improvement:

Drive continuous enhancement of engineering practises, tools, and governance, alongside other duties as reasonably required. Competence & Qualifications Technical Skills Proven experience in a senior technical or assurance role. Strong knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks. Demonstrated ability to make independent technical decisions under pressure. Deep technical expertise and sound engineering judgement within the relevant discipline. Uncompromising professional integrity. Qualifications Degree qualified in an engineering or technology discipline. Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. Formally trained and experienced in event management and root cause investigation techniques (e.g., Kelvin TopSet).
