Salary: Up to £50,000 plus car allowance and additional benefits
The Role
We are currently recruiting for an Estimator for a specialist roofing contractor based in Greater Manchester, providing roofing solutions across new-build, refurbishment and larger-scale construction projects. The business works with main contractors and other construction partners to deliver high-quality, durable roofing solutions. Its work spans residential and commercial developments, with a strong focus on technical expertise, quality workmanship and long-term performance.
The Estimator they are looking for will owns the full tender lifecycle from identifying and qualifying opportunities through to estimating, submission and client follow-up to handover of won projects to the pre-construction and delivery teams. Responsible for producing competitive, accurate and professionally presented tender submissions that win work at the right margins. Having roofing experience would be ideal for this role but not essential to the role.
Duties -
Log any new enquiries received, complete initial project-fit assessment (client, location, size, scope, OTP status), and confirm to client whether the business will go tender or decline
Progress active tenders quantity take-offs, material pricing, rate build-ups, BoQ compilation, marked-up drawings, tender programme, and covering letter ahead of each submission deadline
Weekly estimating review with Head of Pre-construction and Managing Director update on all active tenders, pipeline status, upcoming submission deadlines, and any risks or capacity constraints
Follow up submitted tenders with clients chase outcome, arrange post-tender clarification meetings, and gather feedback on unsuccessful bids
Monthly meeting with key supply chain partners discusses specification, target projects, pricing strategy, product knowledge, innovation and new developments; formally minute meetings and track actions
Review live project Price-to-Cost (PtC) data assess estimated margin vs actual performance as projects progress; identify lessons for future pricing
Report opportunity forecast and pipeline status to the Head of Pre-construction for the monthly business performance meeting
Lessons learned review on lost tenders investigate pricing, scope, programme or submission quality; identify improvement themes; propose process changes
Attend industry trade shows and CPD events stay current on regulations, product innovation, market trends and competitor activity; communicate findings internally
On PQQ (Pre-Qualification Questionnaire) coordinate responses across departments, ensure completed and xwzovoh submitted within 2 weeks of receipt
Lead the pre-construction handover to Operations and all relevant departments; compile Construction Manager cost budget from the accepted tender; brief design, procurement and planning on project requirements
Carry out surveys and investigations with or on behalf of key suppliers where needed to support tender accuracy
On post-tender/pre-award negotiation represent the business at client meetings; clarify scope, programme and pricing; drive towards award
On commercial change / variation (post-award) provide original tender pricing evidence, BoQ references and scope records to Commercial to support variation claims
Obtain project lists from suppliers and distributors; review public procurement portals; register interest; contact existing clients for referrals and pipeline intelligence
