Fire Safety Team Leader

This major Welsh housing provider manages around 15,000 homes across south‑east Wales and is recruiting a Fire Safety Team Leader to strengthen their in‑house compliance function. About the role
You'll lead a team of Fire Safety Technicians and Fire Safety Electrical Engineers, ensuring statutory fire safety requirements are met across a large and diverse housing portfolio. You'll oversee fire risk assessments, manage remedial actions, run inspection programmes, support contractors, and help shape fire safety strategy across the organisation.
This is a role where you'll influence how fire safety is delivered, improve systems and processes, and make sure residents live in safe, compliant homes.
Day‑to‑day, you'll be:
- Leading and developing a team of 8 fire safety specialists, ensuring performance targets are met
- Supporting the Fire Safety Manager and deputising during periods of absence
- Managing an annual budget of around £600k and planning future requirements
- Overseeing the Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) programme, validating significant findings and allocating remedial actions
- Ensuring all FRA actions are completed within set timescales and recorded accurately
- Escalating complex or high‑risk issues appropriately
- Developing and maintaining a fire door inspection database and programme
- Managing inspection programmes including fire doors, emergency lighting, alarms and detection systems
- Assisting with fire strategy development for all premises
- Researching and developing specifications for fire safety projects and providing assurance to internal teams
- Leading contractor meetings, producing minutes and allocating actions
- Maintaining the compliance database and producing executive‑level performance reports
- Contributing to policy development, process improvement and cross‑team collaboration
- Working safely and following all health & safety procedures

What you need
One or more of the following (Or equivalent qualifications/experience):
- NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety
- Specialist Fire Prevention Course
- HNC/HND in Fire Safety Engineering
- Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety Risk Assessors/Auditors
You will also need:
- Experience reviewing fire risk assessments and allocating remedial actions
- Strong organisational, planning and coordination skills
- Excellent communication, influencing and negotiation abilities
- Experience producing management reports and analysing compliance data
- Understanding and application of the Fire Regulatory Order 2005
- Experience in social housing or a similar environment
- Excellent IT skills (MS Office)
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance
Desirable but not essential:
- Project management experience
- Quality assurance background
