We are looking for a motivated Senior Clinical Fellow to join our enthusiastic and expanding team in Cardiff.

This post is available for immediate start until 3rd August 2027 and will not be extended past this point due to this post covering an absence and is also not recognised for training.

This exciting new post is aimed at providing further experience in Major Trauma within a Major Trauma Centre, whilst working as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine within a busy tertiary Emergency Department. The job is designed to be an enjoyable, CV-enhancing post which will attract high calibre candidates

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate would work at the MTC (University Hospital Wales, Cardiff) spending 70% of their time in hospital and 30% of their time on towards various aspects of Major Trauma. They will be joining a well-staffed and supportive hospital team containing 25 Consultants and 13 Registrars in Emergency Medicine. This is a unique opportunity to help build a system dedicated to improving emergency care in the vibrant city of Cardiff.

There are very few opportunities nationally for trainees to develop and gain first-hand experience in Major Trauma. This is a superb opportunity for trainees who wish to build on their portfolio. UHW has appointed a Consultant in Major Trauma who will be overlooking your training and encouraging participation in governance and quality improvement projects.

Eligible candidates will be GMC registered doctors with at least 18 months experience of working in Emergency Medicine in the UK as a middle grade (i.e. able to lead a department at night with remote supervision) and at least 3 months experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, 6 months experience in Anaesthesia, 6 months experience in Intensive Care Medicine and 6 months experience in Acute General Medicine.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Life Support provider status on ALS, APLS or ATLS/ETC
  • Full GMC Registration with License to Practice

Desirable

  • Intercalated Degree
  • Academic Excellence
  • Instructor status in Life support Courses
  • MRCEM
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • 12 months experience of working in Emergency Medicine in the UK as a middle grade (i.e. able to lead a department at night with remote supervision).
  • 4 years of post graduate experience in specialities relevant to emergency medicine

Desirable

  • Some experience in Major Trauma, paediatrics, intensive care, anaesthesia, acute medicine.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE , ABILITIES

Essential

  • Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical and legal topics with patients and colleagues
  • Evidence of recent quality improvement projects or audit.

Desirable

  • Evidence of Teaching experience
