General Manager

Location: Northampton Salary: £95,000-£115,000, car, and excellent benefits package Summary: We are looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead a large FMCG operation based in Northampton. This is a high-impact role for a strong, commercially driven leader who can manage significant operational scale while creating a culture that is inclusive, vibrant, innovative, and focused on making a genuine difference. The successful candidate will have a strong combination of freight and 3PL experience, with a proven track record of managing large teams and multiple support functions. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, commercial performance, customer service, and continuous improvement across the operation. Key Responsibilities: Take full ownership of the day-to-day operation and overall site performance Lead and develop a workforce of 250+ employees Manage all operational support functions, ensuring effective collaboration across the business Utilise your experience across both freight and 3PL environments to drive operational excellence Set clear operational, commercial, and service objectives and ensure delivery against them Manage budgets, costs, KPIs, and overall commercial performance Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and operational efficiency Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders Ensure high standards of compliance, Health & Safety, quality, and customer service Develop a strong leadership team and create a culture of accountability and empowerment Identify opportunities to grow the operation and improve profitability Challenge existing processes and introduce new ideas, technology, and ways of working Ensure the operation remains agile and responsive in a fast-moving environment Key Skills/Experience: Proven experience operating at General Manager or senior operational leadership level Strong background across both freight and 3PL Proven experience managing 250+ people Experience managing multiple operational support functions Highly commercially aware, with strong understanding of budgets, KPIs, cost control, and profitability Exceptional attention to detail and a structured approach to operational management Strong customer and stakeholder management skills Proven track record of driving continuous improvement and change Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation Excellent people leadership and team development skills Resilient, energetic, and comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced environmentProcessing Your Data Bis Henderson Recruitment is a leading provider of recruitment, interim management and consultancy services to the supply chain and logistics industry.
