Permanent General Operative/Handyperson
Location: Grosvenor Grammar School, Marina Park, Belfast BT5 6BA.
Role is on‑site based. Salary: £28,051.20. Hours: 37.5 per week. Monday – Friday shift work on a 3‑week rotation.
Shift Patterns
- Week 1: 6:30 am – 2:30 pm
- Week 2: 10:30 am – 6:30 pm
- Week 3: (pattern may vary – confirmed in interview)
Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth running of the school premises
- Open the building in the morning and lock it at the end of the day
- Carry out day‑to‑day DIY/maintenance and minor repairs (e.g., furniture fixtures)
- Ensure heating, lighting and alarm systems are working properly
- Act as booking engineer for major repair work
- Check that all doors and windows are locked when the building is not in use
- Guard the premises against vandalism
- Arrange chairs and tables for meetings or assemblies and clear away afterwards
- Work under the direction of the team lead
- Maintain best practice and comply with health and safety regulations
- Carry out PPMs (Planned Preventative Maintenance)
Qualifications & Attributes
- Knowledge and previous experience in practical DIY skills for minor repair
- Self‑motivated with a positive attitude
- Good team player
- Flexible with shift work
- Strong relationship building with on‑site clients and employees
- Committed to providing excellent customer service
- Knowledgeable of Health and Safety regulations
- Familiar with COSHH standards
- Basic IT skills
