Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Excellence: Conduct thorough clinical examinations to accurately assess, diagnose, and manage patient conditions. Your expertise will be pivotal in ensuring high-quality care and outcomes for our patients.

Patient Consultations: Provide compassionate and effective consultations both within the surgery and through home visits, ensuring accessibility and continuity of care for all patients, including those who are housebound.

Holistic Patient Care: Monitor ongoing conditions and overall wellbeing of patients, adopting a proactive approach to health maintenance and disease prevention.

Specialised Procedures: Perform minor surgical procedures as necessary, equipped with the latest techniques and knowledge to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Collaborative Practice: Work within multidisciplinary teams, including midwives, pharmacists, health visitors, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals, to deliver a coordinated and comprehensive care experience.

Practice Management and Administration: Engage in essential practice management and administrative duties, contributing to the smooth operation and continuous improvement of our services.

We are a 15,000-patient teaching practice, shortly consolidating across two main sites, serving the North Rhondda community. Job responsibilities

As a Salaried General Practitioner, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality primary care services, with a range of responsibilities tailored to meet the dynamic needs of our patients and practice. While the core duties are outlined below, flexibility and a willingness to adapt to varying workload and staffing levels are essential.

Clinical Responsibilities:

Consultations: Engage in surgery consultations, telephone consultations, and patient queries as per the practice timetable. This includes home visits, managing repeat prescriptions, and addressing patient queries and paperwork efficiently.

Decision-Making: Make professional, autonomous decisions for presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred by other healthcare workers.

Patient Assessment: Assess healthcare needs for patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems, screening for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Care Planning: Develop care plans in consultation with patients, aligning with current practice disease management protocols.

Health Education and Counselling: Provide counselling and health education, tailoring advice and support to patient needs.

Patient Management: Manage patient admission and discharge from the caseload, referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Documentation: Maintain clear, contemporaneous consultation notes and collect data for audit purposes, adhering to QOF requirements and delivering enhanced services.

Prescriptions: Issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions, prescribing in accordance with the practice formulary and clinical appropriateness.

Other Responsibilities within the Organisation: Policy Compliance: Ensure awareness and compliance with all practice policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health & safety and duty of candour.

Continuous Learning: Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning, audit, and evidence-based practice. Contribute to clinical standard setting and the development of computer-based patient records.

Record Management: Contribute to patient record summarising and Read-Coding of patient data. Attend relevant training and events to maintain and enhance professional development.

Practice Responsibilities:

Clinical Standards and Audit: Contribute to clinical standard setting and audits, ensuring data is recorded promptly and accurately in patient records systems.

Health and Safety: Maintain responsibility for personal health and safety, as well as that of others, adhering to practice health and safety policies and procedures.

Professional Development: Develop a training plan in conjunction with practice objectives, participating fully in training and development opportunities provided by the practice.

Training & Development: Participate fully in training and development activities and engage with strategies to enhance clinical, leadership and administrative skills, in alignment with practice business objectives.
