Graduate Electrical Design Engineer Are you a recent Electrical Engineering graduate looking to start your career in electrical design and power systems? Our client, an established engineering business based near Bristol, is looking for a Graduate Electrical Design Engineer to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, gain practical design experience and develop your technical knowledge within the power and energy sector. Training will be provided, with opportunities to develop your design skills and progress towards professional engineering qualifications, including Chartered Engineer status. The Role As a Graduate Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the engineering and tendering teams across a range of electrical infrastructure and power projects. Your responsibilities will include: * Assisting with electrical designs for HV substations and power distribution systems. * Supporting HV and LV electrical design and equipment specifications. * Preparing electrical and power system calculations using appropriate engineering methods. * Producing electrical drawings and technical documentation using AutoCAD. * Using Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations and technical analysis. * Providing technical support to the tendering team. * Liaising with clients, suppliers, contractors and other project stakeholders. * Supporting manufacturers throughout the design, installation and commissioning stages. * Assisting with design reviews, technical queries and project documentation. * Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and health and safety requirements. * Supporting projects through the design, installation and commissioning phases. * Travelling to project sites when required, including occasional overnight stays. Requirements * Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline, or an HNC/HND with relevant electrical engineering modules. * Good understanding of electrical engineering principles, circuit theory and power systems. * Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel. * An understanding of power system calculations would be advantageous. * Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with a proactive attitude and willingness to learn. Previous experience with HV/LV systems, substations, transformers, switchgear or protection systems would be beneficial, although this is not essential as training will be provided. Training & Development This is a graduate-focused position offering structured training and support from experienced engineers. You will develop your electrical design skills while gaining exposure to HV and LV systems, power infrastructure, calculations, equipment specifications and tendering. There will also be opportunities for continued professional development and support towards Chartered Engineer status.
