Background

More detail about the role Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (RDUH), Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSD) and University Hospitals Plymouth (UHP), known collectively as Devon Acute Trusts, have undertaken the biggest programme of clinical pathway transformation, supported by digital technologies they have ever undertaken ensuring that we do the right thing for our patients and carers, people and communities as well as delivering a working environment which better enables staff to deliver the best care they can every day. This has culminated in each of the acute Trusts in the ICSS linking to one electronic patient record (EPR). One Devon Acute Trusts are continuing to work in partnership with Epic to deliver this transformational work. We are seeking an experienced and credible senior leader to join the One Devon Acutes EPR service as our Head of Design and Delivery. This is a permanent business-as-usual role, advertised by Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of the One Devon Acutes EPR team.

You will lead multidisciplinary application, configuration and optimisation teams, ensuring Epic is maintained and developed in line with clinical, operational and digital strategic priorities and mandatory requirements. You will be responsible for leading and directing system design, configuration standards, release management, testing, training, change control and benefits-led optimisation. You will work closely with senior clinical, operational, digital and supplier colleagues to support effective governance, safe decision-making and continuous improvement. The role includes oversight of system development roadmaps, service assurance, risk management, performance reporting, stakeholder engagement, and the delivery of agreed BAU and optimisation work programmes.

About you

We are seeking a senior leader with extensive experience of managing, optimising or supporting complex clinical or operational systems within a healthcare environment. You will bring strong knowledge of clinical, administrative and operational workflows, excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills, and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear, practical decisions. With a proven record of senior leadership, you will be confident in leading multidisciplinary teams, managing competing priorities, working across organisational boundaries and providing assurance to senior governance groups. Experience of Epic, digital transformation, service management, project and change management and NHS operational environments will be highly advantageous.

About the team

The One Devon EPR service supports the shared Epic EPR across Devons acute Trusts. The service works collaboratively with digital, clinical, operational and transformation teams to maintain, optimise and develop the EPR so it continues to support high-quality, joined-up care across the system.

Working pattern

The role will require travel to sites across Devon as required. There may also be a requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends, and the postholder will participate in a 24/7 and/or on-call rota for major releases, incidents, upgrades or periods of heightened operational activity.
