A London borough is looking to appoint an experienced Interim Head of Economy & Growth to lead its economic growth and regeneration agenda.
This is a genuine Head of Service position with responsibility for developing the borough’s regeneration and economic strategy, creating a pipeline of future opportunities and ensuring plans translate into deliverable projects, investment and economic growth.
The role will lead a small team and work closely with senior officers, elected Members, businesses, Business Improvement Districts, the GLA, London Councils and other regional partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Lead the development and delivery of the borough’s regeneration and economic strategy.
* Develop masterplans, investment propositions, business cases and feasibility studies.
* Build a credible pipeline of regeneration and placemaking opportunities.
* Identify and secure external funding from government, regional partners and other sources.
* Develop strong relationships with businesses, BIDs and wider public and private-sector partners.
* Support inward investment, business growth and the development of key local sectors.
* Provide expert advice to senior leadership and elected Members.
* Oversee economic development projects, programmes, budgets, procurement and governance.
* Lead, manage and develop the Economic Development team.
* Ensure projects are delivered to the required standard, timescale and budget.
ABOUT YOU
We are looking for an established economic development or regeneration leader with:
* Senior management experience within a local authority economic development or regeneration service.
* Experience developing economic, regeneration or place-based strategies.
* A successful track record of securing investment and external funding.
* Experience producing masterplans, business cases, feasibility studies and investment propositions.
* Strong understanding of town centres, high streets, business growth and inward investment.
* Experience working with elected Members and operating effectively within a political environment.
* Excellent partnership skills across businesses, government, regional bodies and community stakeholders.
* Experience managing teams, budgets, consultants, procurement and complex programmes.
This is not a purely policy-based appointment. The successful candidate must be able to combine strategic thinking with practical programme delivery, commercial awareness and credible leadership
