Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic leader to join Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust as Head of Radiology Operations. As the operational lead for radiological services across our Trust, you will drive the strategic development and day-to-day management of a high-quality, patient-centred Radiology service spanning our Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe and Amersham sites, including our Community Diagnostics Centre. Working closely with Radiology Clinical Leads, senior managers and consultants, you will play a pivotal role in shaping service improvements, delivering business and project plans, and ensuring performance targets and strategic objectives are met -- all while championing our Trust values of Collaborate, Aspire, Respect and Enable.
Main duties of the job
This post will be the operational lead of radiological services for the Trust.
The Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has hospital sites at Stoke Mandeville, High Wycombe and Amersham, primarily serving Mid and South Buckinghamshire. There are radiology services situated at the Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe hospital and Buckingham hospitals and a Community Diagnostics Centre at Amersham Hospital. There is a Divisional Management Structure in place and Radiology is a clinical delivery unit (CDU) within the Specialist Clinical Services Care Group.
The Head of Radiology Operations is required to work in a way that facilitates and supports the strategic development of the service delivery units, empowers clinicians and frontline staff in decision-making in a way that supports service improvements and provides a patient centred focus.
The post holder will be responsible for developing business and project plans ensuring implementation and that performance targets and strategic objectives are met.
The post holder will work closely with Radiology Clinical Leads, senior radiology managers, all consultants and the Care Group Director of Operations.
The post holder must deliver a high-quality, cost-effective service and through collaborative and constructive working facilitate improvements through change as determined by best practice/service developments.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential
- BSc Radiography or equivalent, and be registered with HCPC
- Post graduate management qualification (MBA / DMS)
- Qualification to masters equivalent level
- Evidence of significant continued personal development
- Hold a Radiation Protection Supervisor Qualification
EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Successful experience in a demanding Clinical Delivery Unit or Service Management role
- Proven success in delivering complex projects and / or business plans within budget
- Detailed working knowledge of NHS practices and procedures and experience of implementing new policies and new ways of working across a service
- Experience of managing change in a large team
- Experience dealing with complex and / or sensitive information and unpredictable situations
- Experience of HR Management including managing grievance and disciplinary hearings
Desirable
- Project management experience
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential
- Proven ability to manage a large budget and deliver within it
- Well-developed business planning and marketing skills
- The ability to manage initiatives within financial restraints and deliver to deadlines
- Significant appreciation and knowledge of good communications practice
- Ability to function in highly stressful situations, assimilating a variety of clinical and managerial information
- Excellent IT Skills
