Key Responsibilities
Provide SHEQ support to depot managers, employees and contractors, promoting compliance and continuous improvement across all operations.
Conduct depot audits, inspections and workplace assessments, completing a minimum of 10 IMS525 inspections each month using the Vatix system and reporting findings to the Health & Safety Manager.
Develop, review and maintain RAMS, SSOW and risk assessments, including reviewing POWRAs through Fyld software.
Support compliance with company, client and legal requirements through internal inspections, external audit support, accurate record keeping and action tracking.
Lead and support accident, incident and near-miss investigations using the company 2, 2, 2 process, identifying root causes, implementing corrective actions and producing detailed reports with supporting evidence.
Conduct SHEQ meetings, maintain accurate records of conversations and investigations, and ensure all decisions are evidence-based and impartial.
Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, training sessions and lessons learned communications to improve workforce competence and engagement.
Provide SHEQ advice and guidance to managers, employees and contractors, helping to embed a positive safety culture and safe working practices.
Compile and report monthly SHEQ KPI data, trends and performance metrics to the Health & Safety Manager and contract management teams.
Ensure awareness of emergency procedures, fire safety, first aid arrangements and environmental responsibilities, capturing lessons learned and implementing improvements.
Maintain accurate SHEQ documentation and ensure compliance with company policies, statutory requirements and industry standards.
Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the level and responsibilities of the role.
Southern Water Framework and reporting into Southern Water leads within the business
Requirements
Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
Experience conducting inspections, audits, compliance assessments and risk assessments.
Skilled in incident investigation, root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
Excellent report writing, record keeping and attention to detail. Ability to analyse SHEQ data and produce KPI reports.
Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and training delivery skills.
Ability to influence positive safety behaviours and promote a strong SHEQ culture.
Effective organisation, time management, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work independently and support operational teams.
Competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and building effective working relationships.
Knowledge of audit processes, continuous improvement and SHEQ management systems/software.
Desirable (Not Essential)
Experience within utilities, construction, civil engineering or infrastructure sectors.
Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Integrated Management Systems (IMS).
Experience supporting external audits, regulatory inspections and contractor compliance.
Knowledge of behavioural safety programmes, occupational health and wellbeing initiatives.
Experience developing SHEQ policies, procedures and safe systems of work.
Awareness of fire safety, emergency planning and business continuity.
Coaching and mentoring skills.
Advanced Excel and SHEQ reporting experience.
Experience presenting SHEQ performance information to senior management and clients.
