HGV Mechanic / Commercial Vehicle Technician Location: Chadderton, Oldham Salary: £46,800 – £55,000 Hours: Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 16:30 Job Type: Full-Time | Permanent Benefits & Package * Excellent earning potential with overtime available * Day shifts only – no weekends * Flexible working hours for the right candidate * Modern workshop facilities * Independent working environment * Company pension scheme * Training and development support * PPE and specialist equipment provided * 28 days holiday including bank holidays * Christmas shutdown period The Opportunity An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced HGV Mechanic / Commercial Vehicle Technician to join a well-established and growing transport operation based in Chadderton, Oldham. This role offers a varied workload across a mixed fleet of HGVs, trailers, and commercial vehicles, making it ideal for a technician who enjoys hands-on work, autonomy, and responsibility within a professional workshop environment. The successful candidate will be joining a supportive team with the opportunity to manage their own workflow while working on a wide range of vehicles and equipment. Fleet Includes * HGV units * Commercial vans and LCVs * Curtain-side trailers * Box trailers and specialist trailer equipment Key Responsibilities * Carry out routine maintenance and servicing to DVSA standards * Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults * Complete inspections, MOT preparation, and road testing * Ensure vehicles remain roadworthy and compliant * Arrange and coordinate MOT bookings * Maintain accurate workshop and service records * Attend vehicle breakdowns when required using company breakdown vehicle * Work closely with workshop and transport teams Requirements * NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or equivalent * Previous experience as an HGV Technician / Mechanic * Strong mechanical and diagnostic abilities * Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems * Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively * Own tools required * HGV Class 1 licence desirable but not essential Ideal Candidate This role would suit a reliable and motivated technician looking for a stable, long-term opportunity within a growing business that values flexibility, independence, and high workshop standards.
