Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant Location: Southampton Start Date: September 2026 Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term Pay Rate: £85–£100 per day About the School Supply Desk is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist SEMH provision in Southampton, dedicated to supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a nurturing, structured and highly supportive environment where pupils are encouraged to re-engage with learning, build positive relationships, and develop essential life skills. The staff team are passionate, resilient, and deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of vulnerable learners. The school places a strong emphasis on emotional regulation, restorative practice, and personalised learning approaches to ensure every pupil has the opportunity to succeed. The Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join the team on a full-time, long-term basis from September 2026. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who is patient, resilient, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs Assist the class teacher in delivering engaging and accessible lessons Support pupils in managing behaviour and emotional regulation Build strong, trusting relationships with students to encourage positive engagement Implement behaviour support strategies and personalised learning plans Promote a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies The Ideal Candidate Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs (preferred but not essential) A calm, patient and resilient approach Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to build positive relationships with challenging learners A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people A willingness to learn and develop professionally What Supply Desk Offers Competitive daily pay of £85–£100 Long-term, stable placement in a specialist setting Ongoing support from a dedicated consultant Access to CPD and training opportunities Opportunity to make a real and lasting impact on young lives Safeguarding Statement Supply Desk is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
