Our client, a prominent organisation in the public sector, is seeking a diligent Highway Inspector to join their team on a contract basis. This role involves carrying out essential safety inspections of highways, managing minor repairs, and responding to service requests from residents. An exciting opportunity for those passionate about maintaining and improving public infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Undertake routine safety inspections of the highway
Inspect work by contractors and statutory undertakers, ensuring quality and compliance with specifications
Programme and conduct minor surveys and census work
Utilise available equipment for inspection, measurement, or recording purposes
Maintain knowledge on construction methods, materials, and legislative matters
Work out of hours for site inspection, recording, and supervision
Respond to service requests from residents
Perform pre and post highway licence inspections
Liaise with contractors and statutory undertakers on site
Address complaints and queries from the public in accordance with the Customer Response Management system
Job Requirements:
Experience in highway inspection and maintenance
Knowledge of construction methods and materials
Understanding of relevant legislative matters
Ability to work outside regular hours when needed
Proficiency in using inspection and measurement equipment
Strong communication skills for liaising with contractors and resolving public complaints
Capability to draft reports and correspondence
Attention to detail in conducting inspections and surveys
Additional Responsibilities:
Produce preliminary designs for minor schemes
Inspect work by statutory undertakers for quality and compliance
Support the Maintenance Manager in fostering a quality management and customer care approach
Supervise minor maintenance contracts and issue works orders
Prepare estimates, reports, and manage engineering duties such as material testing
Oversee the annual surface dressing programme and site investigation reports
Supervise all stages of relevant engineering works
Assist in staff induction and participate in recruitment processes
