BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of road maintenance and management services, proudly responsible for the upkeep and enhancement of the country’s vital trunk road network — including bridges and key infrastructure — across some of the most scenic and challenging terrain in the UK.

Our Northwest Trunk Road Unit spans over 1,422km of roadways, stretching from the rugged beauty of Thurso and Wick in the far north, down to the coastal charm of Campbeltown in Argyll and Bute. It connects communities from Uig on the Isle of Skye to the historic cities of Perth and Stirling, offering a unique opportunity to work across a landscape that’s as diverse as it is inspiring.

We are looking for an Electrician to join our North West Electrical Team based in Inverness.

Reporting to the Electrical Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining, inspecting, fault-finding and repairing electrical assets across the trunk road network. Working as part of a skilled and supportive team, you will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of critical roadside infrastructure that keeps Scotland moving.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrician who enjoys a varied, hands-on role and takes pride in delivering high standards of workmanship and safety.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine inspections and planned preventative maintenance on trunk road electrical assets.
  • Respond to electrical faults and undertake reactive repairs to minimise disruption and maintain public safety.
  • Support electrical improvement projects, upgrades and installations across the network.
  • Complete scheduled night-time safety patrols, operating on a fortnightly rota between October and March and every four weeks between April and September.
  • Participate in a 24/7 standby rota, typically one week in every five.
  • Accurately diagnose and resolve electrical faults in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and operational teams to ensure the reliable performance of electrical infrastructure.
  • Maintain compliance with all Health & Safety, industry and legislative requirements.
  • Contribute ideas and technical expertise to support continuous improvement and best practice.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Current and valid SJIB ECS Card.
  • Minimum four years’ experience in electrical maintenance and fault-finding.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety regulations, standards and industry best practices.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve electrical faults effectively and safely.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to participate in standby, overtime and nightshift working arrangements.
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including working at height and within confined spaces.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
