Make a difference. Grow skills. Change futures.
Are you an experienced horticulture professional who wants to use your skills for something more meaningful?
We're looking for a passionate Horticulture Industry Instructor to deliver vocational training to learners within a prison environment, helping them gain practical horticulture skills, recognised qualifications and the confidence they need to build a positive future beyond release.
You'll deliver Level 1 NOCN and Level 2 City & Guilds Horticulture qualifications, combining practical workshop-based training with classroom learning, sustainability and employability skills.
What you'll be doing
Deliver engaging Level 1 and Level 2 horticulture training, covering gardening, plant care, growing and sustainable practices.
Support up to 24 learners, adapting your approach to meet individual learning needs.
Develop learners' practical skills in horticulture, including the safe use of tools, machinery and equipment.
Promote sustainable horticultural practices including soil health, water conservation, recycling and organic growing.
Plan and supervise workshop activities, setting clear targets and supporting learners to achieve their qualifications.
Create a positive, safe and productive learning environment that encourages confidence, accountability and personal development.
Work alongside Work & Skills Coaches to help learners build employability skills and prepare for employment after release.
Complete relevant records, learner progress information, risk assessments and reports.
Maintain high standards of health, safety, security and tool control within the workshop.
Contribute to restorative approaches that encourage reflection, responsibility and positive behaviour.
Support the wider prison team by providing relevant information for sentence planning, parole and security reporting.
Why this role matters
This isn't just a teaching role.
You'll be helping people develop real, practical skills that can lead to employment, while supporting them to make positive changes in their lives.
You'll see learners develop from having little or no horticultural experience to gaining recognised qualifications, building confidence and developing skills they can take with them into the community.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone with strong practical horticulture experience who can combine industry knowledge with the ability to motivate, support and develop others.
You'll ideally have:
Relevant horticulture industry experience.
Experience of delivering or supporting vocational training/learning.
Strong practical knowledge of horticultural tools, machinery, growing and maintenance.
An understanding of health & safety and risk assessment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to adapt your approach to different learning needs.
A calm, professional and supportive approach.
A genuine interest in helping people develop and progress.
Experience working within a prison, custodial, education or other secure environment would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
Join us and make a difference
If you're looking for a role where your horticulture expertise can genuinely change lives, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and help grow skills, confidence and brighter futures.
