CapeClarke is working with a well-established organisation operating within the healthcare sector to recruit an In-House Healthcare Solicitor for its Leeds-based claims team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Clinical Negligence Solicitor or experienced healthcare claims professional to move into a varied in-house position, managing a portfolio of complex claims while providing support and guidance to healthcare professionals.

The Role

You will take responsibility for the effective management and resolution of clinical negligence claims, using your technical expertise and commercial judgement to develop appropriate case strategies and achieve fair outcomes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied caseload of clinical negligence and healthcare claims from initial notification through to resolution
  • Developing clear case strategies and ensuring claims are progressed efficiently
  • Assessing liability, causation, quantum, limitation and costs
  • Setting and reviewing accurate financial reserves
  • Managing and challenging legal costs and other third-party expenditure
  • Working closely with panel solicitors, medical experts and other external advisers
  • Providing clear, practical and empathetic advice to healthcare professionals throughout the claims process
  • Identifying risk and making appropriate decisions regarding settlement, defence and escalation
  • Ensuring files are handled in accordance with internal governance, regulatory requirements and service standards
  • Building effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Contributing to wider projects, process improvements and knowledge-sharing across the claims team
  • Supporting and mentoring less experienced colleagues where appropriate

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification experience handling clinical negligence or healthcare matters.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with either claimant or defendant clinical negligence experience, as well as experienced healthcare claims professionals with a strong technical background.

You should be able to demonstrate:

  • Strong clinical negligence claims experience
  • Sound technical knowledge and commercial judgement
  • The ability to manage complex files independently
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A confident but empathetic approach when dealing with healthcare professionals
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance competing priorities
